”knock, knock”

“I am with the census bureau and would like to make sure you are reported.”

I was visited by a Census Bureau representative and asked about myself and family status. After researching the community of Inglewood, the median per capita income is $23,965 and a median household income of $54,393.

Inglewood is known for culture and has a variety of foreigners, but predominately the population is Hispanic & Black ethnicity and race. The ethnic background is 51% Hispanic, 38% Black, 4% White and 3% Asian. Foreign born population is 28.5% and the top languages spoken are Spanish and English.

It is interesting to learn 15.1% of the population is below the poverty line. Hopefully this number will change dramatically with the new LA Rams & Chargers stadium, upcoming LA Clippers stadium, the Forum and Hollywood Park Casino. Commuting to work is also an option, whether it is to Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), Torrance or Culver City. The average travel time for work is 31 minutes. The major way of transportation is driving (73%), then carpooling (13%) and public transits (6%).

Education levels are very low for post high school education. Most of the population educational attainment is a 77.4% high school graduate and only 21.2% with a Bachelor’s degree. Such a large difference by almost 50%.

Census outcomes are important because it reflects the resources and fundings available for the community. Schools, hospitals, public transportation and so much more will be adjusted to accurate the population for Inglewood, CA.
